Many people have been wondering what Obsidian Entertainment's next project will be after Neverwinter Nights 2 and now it's official. During an interview with Chris Avellone over at Obsidian Entertainment's offices in California it was revealed that their next title will be the successor of the 1999 cult classic Planecape: Torment.

Development will begin shortly after the release of Neverwinter Nights 2 but according to Chris preparations have already begun. He wouldn't say much about the story except that you will not be playing the role of the Nameless One again (even though Chris mentioned that he might make a guest appearance). The game will instead center around a person who gets dragged into the Blood War, the huge eternal war between the demons of the Abyss and the devils of Baator, which will take the player to lots of different locations in the Planescape universe.

The perhaps biggest difference between the new game and its predecessor is that it will be in 3D and played from a third person view. Instead of using the Neverwinter Nights 2 engine Chris say that it will use a heavily modified Total War engine to be able to accurately portray the massive scale of the Blood War.

This is GOOD news indeed. I rembember the ending of Torment. Me, as the character, taking a heavy club and walking away into the turmoil of war.... It kind a made me sad - you play and play the game over and over again and you end up still fighting for a war that you don't even belong to. But still, best news of the day Smile
