The Inquirer reports that Microsoft stated at the annual
Siggraph conference that
DirectX 10.1, the upcoming next version of Microsoft's graphics API which is part of Vista Service Pack 1, will have new features that will not be able to be used on the PC graphics cards (GeForce 8800/Radeon 2900).

Why would this be bullshit... it's highly likely...
They done this before.
My DX9 card can't play games like Splinter Cell Chaos Theory because of the Shader 3.0 revision that was included in DX9c or whatever it was.
This shouldn't surprise anyone..
Good news that it's mostly pointless stuff thats changed (if that part of it turns out to be true). |

miglaugh: that is little bit different - SM3.0 was major addition, and the whole reason why it was named DX9.0c is pure marketing, as microsoft wanted the DX 10.0 to be viewed as big thing and as a reason to switch to longhorn/vista. In fact, technically speaking DX9.0->9.0c was larger update than DX9c->DX10 is. That said, DX10.1 seems purely pointless ATM. |
