HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer: "RPEnabled" = "1"
-> tablet mode, ribbons in explorer
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer: "RPEnabled" = "0"
-> desktop mode, normal startmenu, no ribbons in explorer |

Every other version of Windows is a turd.
At least they're consistent.
If you think about it they're doing us a favor by only making every other one worth spending the money on. |

Well, that's true. But the problem is they do not throw out all the rubbish from the iteration I intend to buy. |

Windows 7.5 mango actually works and runs fairly well. Nokia 710 runs better than android imo. App support is ok but needs to be better. I'm not sure I'm ok with the whole mobile thing on personal desktop. I know they're trying to push the newer smartphones with tegra and dual cores to be more now. |

You have to edit a registry entry to have the old normal desktop? They've completely removed classic and other options from desktop settings? I run classic even on win7 . |

I don't see what the problem is here, it's clearly made for the mass market which is people that don't know a thing about PC's. I know from experience that most people can't use a PC for more than office work, browsing, media playing and email so if MS make it more simplified and pretty people will like it. I think it would be great to use on a TV with Kinect or a touchscreen controller (or a smartphone app?), I think they need to start making a business OS and a home PC OS because I cant see this being used in offices around the World. As for running classic on Win 7 that's something I could never do. |

I don't disagree that the OS or it's likeness runs well on mobiles and would look great on a TV. I've dicked around on a 710 with mango and it ran circles around a similar spec droid. If I needed an HTPC again then I would go for looks and functionality. Desktop gaming and general use I don't need nor care about this though. Many games disable aero which saves a step.
If you like your desktop all pretty or whatever that's fine. It would be nice to have a simple option to shut it all off. Options all around are a good thing imo. |
