With the top tier card costing the same price as a used car? I'll wait a few years I think.

I picked up an MSI GTX 980Ti GAMING 6G Golden Edition for 270 bucks recently, OCs pretty well and compared to a stock 1070Ti it actually benches better in some tests. Biggest difference between the two is the power draw and 2 extra GB of RAM.

Same here though I went for a Gigabyte GTX 970.
Runs all current game in almost full detail (I always turn off Depth of Field and such rubbish).
I don't need 8k gaming - not at these price tags anyway.

Why would he? It'd jeopardize 1080 sales.

Weren't you the guy criticizing me claiming my card couldn't do what I said? I've had my 970 for years and I got it dirt cheap.. Still see no reason to upgrade it even with the advent of 11xx series.

My screen is 2560x1440 and still my fps is good at high or higher settings.

I don't need 4K or 8K however with DSR on I can also get good results at 4K.

It might sound like a ball ache, but you can sell the 970 GTX for 200 bucks, then pay an extra 50-70 bucks for a 980 Ti. It'll mean the difference between 1080p and 4K gaming, especially with a card that is a high ASIC and good OC. If you want a good budget 4K TV, the Samsung UN40MU6300 is also being flogged at cheap prices, but it doesn't support wide colour gamut. Not a big deal for its price though, and honestly not enough games even support that feature right now.

Now is the time to do it, because I've noticed a lot of gamers obsessing over the 10xx range, when really it is a massive waste of money unless you want to save $30 on your electricity bill each year. Craigslist has been full of amazing deals on the 980 Ti lately. NVIDIA have effective marketing, and it's fooling a lot of people.
