Not sure why anyone would like to compare these two.
It's like fighting with one hand behind your back.
Same thing happened when we went from 8bit to 16bit, 16bit to 32bit and the same thing will happen when we go from 64bit to 512bit (no point doing 128bit and 256bit, might as well skip these).

how fast is win32 compared to win64 with application tasks that need more than 4GB of RAM?

What a pointless comparison...you can't even play CS:GO with <4GB of RAM anymore.

Pretty much. Windows will take at least 1.xx GB without even loading the GPU driver, which will take ~300MB by itself, and around 200MB more for various accompanying services. So here we are at over 2GB at this point.
What launchers do you have in the background? Some utilities and stuff...Cortana in use (search bar in taskbar = cortana in use ~200MB at least.
I could go on.

4GB is just not enough. It's a bare minimum for browsing (up to 5-6 tabs)...
