The cheapest, slowest, clunkiest SATA SSD is already enough to make any gaming rig perfectly fine and enjoyable. The key factor is the seek time, or the lack thereof, vs HDDs.

There are definitely applications where you want maximum drive speed but a home PC basically never needs that. It doesn't hurt, but it also isn't a big deal.
