The Verge has the story, and says
that they\'re not only working on such hardware, but they plan to make

Arcade \'Well, if we have to sell hardware we will\' and followed that u

Good and bad news at the same time. Good because games may be better developed with a target hardware in mind, bad for AMD/nVidia because of the same thing. If all (vast majority) games are made to work on that hardware there will be less progress and less sales of GPUs. This will either drive hardware prices down or up, depending on the company strategies. I'd rather see the game prices go down instead of hardware prices... |

Another console-looking PC that nobody needs. Great. |

While it is nice to have a Steam console, i believe it's not doing a gamer who is into mods any good as consoles tend to be centrally controlled (in this case, by Steam).
Give me good ol' PC any day.
Let's hope Steam doesn't kill its golden goose while pursuing this idea. |

I'm currently beta testing this product. It's called My PC with Steam and Origin installed. The final product will be smaller and use a stripped-down version of Windows 8. |

since you are prolly under NDA, can you at least answer this: are you able to install 3rd party software? |

I know portable/mobile phone/tablet gaming is the big cash cow promised land right now but I give less than 1/100th of a shit about it.
I just hope Valve is as smart as I think they are. I don't see them ignoring/neglecting the real PC market. I don't even see them hoping for some magical bullshit PC merged with mobile games lala-land like microsoft seems to think will happen.
Making things cross-platform could work...but really...dumbing shit down to 360 level is as low as I will go for real games.
Of course this will also push the mobile/tablet technology forward so maybe THOSE games won't suck goat balls. GAH, now I've confused myself. I think I'll go back to not giving a crap about anything mobile related (of course I don't even own a cell-phone so that makes it easier). |
