The Battlefield series may one day offer a subscription service. EA Games executive vice president Patrick Soderlund told Venturebeat that the company is exploring such a model for its marquee shooter franchise.
GamesBeat: Do you think youÂ’ll eventually get to a subscription type of model? And do you also think youÂ’

It is very different from COD but if they or anyone else decides to make me pay to play after I paid for the game It will not happen. I will not buy a game only to have to have a monthly subscription in order to play it. No game is worth such a service. If this is referring to the Elite in Mw3 then answer is still no. |

Paying users don't like to be shot - they need wannabees to shoot at who don't mind dying.
There's no other way to bring in free players, so they have to do this.
Subscriptions are better for the company as well: it provides solid income over the time, very easy to predict when support needs to be cut. Plus, you spend a lot more money on the game (you will buy it tenfold).
Will more people come in when it's free? Only time will tell.
If it works, it was worth it, if it does not - well, it will die and we will see a next iteration soon.
I won't join for sure. I think the game sucks. The fact that it's free won't change that. But, that's only me, so might as well ignore that comment. |

"We are in this business because we want to make the best possible products."
What an outrageous lie. What does he takes us for? 3 year olds?
as for getting more players to play, well, try this one:
digital download copy (one copy of the game stuffed on your server then distributed infinitely for free cash minus some bandwidth costs): 15$ with 1 month online MP access
hard copy: 35$, 3 months online MP access
subscription: 5~10$ per month.
now go ahead and laugh, then bring on the 79$ game price model with additional subscription of 20$ per month if you want to play MP and hope for the best, then blame it on pirates because less and less people buy your games. |

Actually, I would not blame the pirates. Pirates are to blame, yes, but for another reason.
They can only blame themselves because they create a positive feedback. People turn to piracy because of the more and more intrusive DRMs, the more and more cost (plus, associated cost) for less and less value.
They should create negative feedback (encourage people to stay away from piracy instead of taking the shortcut) - but they fail to achieve that every time.
Don't blame the pirates - they're merely a tool in this.
Don't blame the gamers - they pay only for value. |

well ofc, you have common sense, you are not a greedy sales manager that has no excuse to present to CEO other than "it's pirates" or something in those lines, but he also cannot go to the board and tell them "look, we are going to cut our initial sales profits in hopes that we will make more profit later IF it turns out that our game is good" because, well, we all know that most games are made mostly to be sold as fast as possible, quality is not the primary goal, primary goal is "take the money and run" |
