Dragonriders: Chronicles of Pern
(hx) 07:29 AM EDT - Aug,06 2001

Dragonriders: Chronicles of Pern is an 3D action adventure with role-playing elements set in the world of author Anne McCaffrey's Pern series of books. You take the role of D'kor, a novice Dragonrider known as a Weyrling. His fate is tied into a complex adventure in which the Red Star is not the only threat to life on Pern. With over 200 characters to interact with, a complex and thrilling story and some fiendish puzzles, D'kor must venture across the rich world Pern in the hope of saving it from it's greatest enemy. The game features an epic story that spans over 4 chapters and contains dozens of sub plots, an experience dozens of stunning locations through the cinematic camera system, major player interaction with numerous non-player characters and abilities to build up your character by improving skills and your social status. Dragonriders: Chronicles of Pern very nice surprised me, now I can understand why developers spent over three years with this game. First off most gamers will probably appreciate that game is very good playable. The opening section of the game does a good job of teaching you how to use the controls and interface. It's much more comfortable than some seperated tutorials. In the game you will travel through Pern by your vehicle - dragon and solve quests with a small amount of combat (there's absolutely no blood). The quests usually involve finding things for people and things like that. How I wrote above, there is over 200 NPCs which will keep you busy. Dragonriders: Chronicles of Pern has beautiful graphic design (all of the main characters are easily identifiable), and atmospheric soundtrack. Also combat is simple and effective, though camera could be a little better done. Overall, this game is very good. If you liked McCaffrey's Pern series of books you will probably love this game. However if you like soft action-adventures without violence, it's just game for you.

snd: 4/5 - very good, atmospheric soundtrack
gfx: 4/5 - beautiful 3D graphics, unintuitive camera angles, impossibility to skip cutscenes
playability: 4/5 - very easy to play, addictive, plenty of save slots, simple and effective, no violence, 100% keyboard control (no mouse)
genre: 3D action adventure
platform: PC, DC
release: August 2001
developer: Ubi Studios UK
publisher: Ubisoft

I think the game is very well done. You get to the point where it is very difficult to get any further and you need a lot of patience. It is definately worth playing but you will probably play for a while get sick of it and come back to it another day.

Par excellence grahpics i must say. The 200 NPC WILL not get you bored but kinda sleepy because of the long interaction moments.... sometimes you just need a pint of blood now and then. Don't you agree ? ^^ Regards, Jagogame.com
