Although I liked to play FIFA 2001, I cannot deny the previous two incarnations, FIFA 2000 and FIFA 2001 were too simplistic (button-mashing gameplay) for most dedicated soccer players. Now FIFA 2002 does not feel like any other FIFA game. Yeah it's really quite different game than before, with totally re-invented game-play, FIFA 2002 finally feels more like real football.
FIFA 2002 features over 75 licensed national teams and 16 licensed leagues including the English Premier League, German Bundesliga, Spanish Premier League, the French LNF, and Major League Soccer (MLS) and the chance to qualify your country for 2002 FIFA World Cup, new passing system incorporating an open-ended and flexible passing model, All new tackling and referee model, an expanded injury-fatigue system, and informational "hotsheets" and customizable controls. You can choose from Friendly, FIFA World Cup Qualification, League, Custom, Multiplayer, Season, Tournaments modes, or take look at Creation Centre, Team Management and Rewards. The training mode unfortunately missing here, really I don't understand why EA removed it.
After several days of solid play I can safely say that FIFA 2002 is a much better game than the 2000 and 2001 incarnations of the series. The players now react to different situations on the ground realistically and can now make mistakes, new passing model adds a true skill element to the game, the goalkeeper is now much more intelligent and realistic (though still stupid), the defenders tackling skills and styles have now improved and the referee AI has been drastically improved too. Also players heights and weights are noticeable. Despite the improvements in the passing, shooting and refereeing, FIFA 2002 is still essentially an arcade-style soccer game for casual gamers. If you like Soccer (or better FOOTBALL because I live in Europe ), you will 100% like it, anyway better soccer game for PC doesn't exist :) Definitely FIFA 2002 seems to be a far longer-term investment than previous FIFA series. Download playable demo (16MB) (but I strongly
recommend you to check this download page for patches and more goodies).

Me too I had some problem with the new features but with some training I got it well. Some people said that they found the game too slow, I must say that on my PC there are not problems except when the game starts over with a rainy day. I have 512 MB SDRAM PC 133 with a P667 with VGA MATROX G400DH.... no problem at all but I do agree with some, there are no human team in a tournament. Anyway thats a good stuff. |

Since '00, they were a no show BUT EA felt happy to include Israeli Club Teams. Yeah, that's right. Israeli soccer is so much better than Portuguese.
