Mechawarrior 5 RTS game mod - mod&map
(hx) 04:26 PM CEST - Jul,30 2020 - Post a comment / read (1)
A team of modders has released a must-have mod for MechWarrior 5, Mechcommander: Mercenaries. Mechcommander: Mercenaries basically turns MechWarrior 5 into a real-time strategy game. Players will be able to select and issue orders to their lance and other friendly units throughout Mechwarrior 5’s campaign mode. As the team noted, phase 1 of the project is a limited RTS experience that works with most of the base game’s story missions and procedurally generated levels. Additional RTS features, features from previous Mechcommander titles, and compatibility with Instant Action and Co-op will be added later.

Marvels Avengers - beta details - briefly
(hx) 11:23 PM CEST - Jul,29 2020 - Post a comment
Publisher Square Enix and developers Crystal Dynamics and Eidos Montreal detailed the August-due beta for Marvel’s Avengers, as well as announced Hawkeye as a post-launch playable character and a Fortnite collaboration during the game’s second “War Table” live stream today.
Viewers who watched the Marvel’s Avengers “War Table” live were the first to get all the amazing details about the wide array of content that will be available in the beta, including several single-player missions, as well as a large selection of additional missions that can be played solo with your AI Avengers team or co-op with up to four players. In one mission, players take on the role of young Super Hero Kamala Khan and team up with Hulk as they infiltrate an AIM base in the forests of the American Pacific Northwest, hot on the trail of the last known location of JARVIS. Later they take the Quinjet to a remote War Zone in the frozen Russian tundra to uncover SHIELD secrets hidden in a deep underground bunker.

The Marvel’s Avengers beta will provide players with a comprehensive hands-on experience of the game ahead of its worldwide launch on September 4.

  • The Marvel’s Avengers beta program begins on August 7 exclusively for PlayStation 4 owners who have pre-ordered the game and will be available until August 9. On August 14, the beta will be available for all PlayStation 4 owners and run through August 16.
  • For those who pre-ordered Marvel’s Avengers on Xbox One and PC, the beta will begin on August 14 and will run through August 16.
  • Finally, on August 21, the beta program will be open to all PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC players and run through August 23.

First Free Post-Launch Character: Hawkeye

Spoiler Alert! The Marvel’s Avengers “War Table” gave a sneak peek at one of the first heroes that will be added to the game after launch at no additional cost: Clint Barton’s Hawkeye.

In an original story-arc inspired by some of the best-known Hawkeye moments in the comics, players wield Clint’s iconic high-tech bow and trick arrows in missions either solo or co-op online with friends. Hawkeye’s story will continue to move the entire Marvel’s Avengers narrative world forward, and all new missions are accessible with the entire roster of playable heroes.

More information about this and additional post-launch content, including the new villain and other content debuting with Hawkeye’s story, will be available soon.

Fortnite Collaboration

During the Marvel’s Avengers “War Table” stream, it was also revealed that PlayStation 4 and Xbox One players who link their Square Enix Members and Epic Games accounts and complete the beta’s three HARM-room challenges will earn the “Hulk Smashers Pickaxe” with bonus “Hulkbuster” style in Epic Games’ free-to-play game, Fortnite.

Cloud Imperium releases official statement about Squadron 42 - briefly
(hx) 10:13 PM CEST - Jul,29 2020 - Post a comment / read (3)
A lot of fans criticized Cloud Imperium these past few days for a complete lack of communication. After all, the team had promised to launch the game’s closed beta in Q3 2020. And today, Cloud Imperium issued an official statement about the progress of Squadron 42 and its upcoming roadmap. Let’s start with the obvious, the beta phase for Squadron 42 won’t be happening anytime soon.
When we realized that our old Roadmap didn’t represent our development progress very well, we started exploring options for how to build something more informational that fit how we develop games. Our original message about this was in one of March’s Roadmap Roundups, and we followed up with hints about this in our Squadron 42-focused Calling All Devs on March 13.

We mentioned then that we are happy with Squadron 42 development and committed to a few things I’d like to bring up again. We talked about injecting more Squadron 42 content into our regularly scheduled releases, which is why you may have noticed things like the Squadron 42 themed episode of Calling All Devs, or the Inside Star Citizen updates on Vanduul ships, gas tech, a deeper look at the Aciedo Comm Array, and other related content. This was all alongside our monthly Squadron 42 Reports (March, April, May, June). One of the important elements to messaging Squadron 42 updates has also been to raise awareness that work completed for Star Citizen is also work done for Squadron 42. The only content that’s exclusively SQ42 are people, places and plot – and we don’t want to spoil those.

With all SQ42 updates, our goal has been to find balance in sharing SQ42 content while minimally impacting the development team so they can focus on what matters most: finishing the game.

The recent SQ42 video update, which is a brand-new show we were debuting called “The Briefing Room,” was a lower-effort video that we embarked on with the goal of sharing more information with you but in a scrappy and fast manner, so as to minimize the disruption to the dev team and yet still give you new information. We planned for this to be a semi-regular show, with its cadence depending on how well the content was received and how disruptive (or not) this first episode would be to our dev team. This first episode was meant to focus specifically on (spoiler alert) updates on our conversation interrupt tech and level design in SQ42. What we discovered after the whole piece was finished and getting ready for publish was that our approach resulted in an underwhelming show. Not only did the episode have major audio issues due to WFH recording, but it lacked visuals to support the talking, and we truly prefer to show rather than tell. Ultimately, we decided that it wasn’t good enough to show, even for a “scrappy” video that was not meant to be a marketing sizzle trailer. However, before that “stop ship” message could permeate our entire marketing org, we had moved forward with a public publish date.

Originally, we thought we could simply splice in fresh b-roll, but as we spent the next few days reviewing the show, we saw the need to update our visuals to better reflect what we were discussing, and that led us to the realization that we still didn’t have the right footage, at our quality bar, to tell the story we wanted to tell. So, we ended up deciding to re-shoot the entire episode with our usual quality standards. As mentioned, The Briefing Room was never meant to be such a disruption to the team that we would prioritize footage for the show above our internal milestones for development. Therefore, our SQ42 art team could only work on capturing new footage after normal work hours. Add to the mix that key personnel were actually out sick for over a week, and you can see how our schedule kept getting pushed back further and further.

We’ve certainly communicated the delays and the reasons for it, and have even had Brian Chambers relay the news initially, with our CMs repeating that message when the topic cropped up multiple times. We’ve had to do that a couple of times over the past weeks. And unfortunately, the plain truth was always the same: The initial video didn’t meet our standards and we are redoing it. We didn’t get into such details as sick personnel nor did we explicitly spell out that the video footage couldn’t leapfrog actual dev work in our priority list. After all, we don’t like to make excuses. But it’s clear that the confluence of the prolonged delay to the Briefing Room and the lack of any new information (because there was none) created angst within the community.

Something that’s often not seen externally is the actual amount of time and effort it takes to put together the video content we regularly release. Delivering the updates to the standards we want takes time, and despite those saying they would be fine with a rough cut of talking heads, we get endless complaints when that’s what we deliver, example being that the Monthly Reports or linked examples above are quickly dismissed or forgotten. The SQ42 video is still coming (probably in the next few weeks), along with an assortment of other updates, including an overhaul to our Public Roadmap.

The new Roadmap is something we hinted at in March but because that is still very much in development, we can’t share as much about it as I would like. Believe me when I say I’m personally very eager to release it to you. We took the time to explore options for how we could better represent our progress, and I believe we are getting close to landing in a pretty great spot. Our goal with this new Roadmap is to give you better visibility into what teams are working on, share the progress of more teams, and go so far as to indicate the size of the projects for our tech, features, and content teams. This new Roadmap will drastically change how you follow the development progress for both Squadron 42 and Star Citizen. The new Roadmap will focus more on breaking out teams and features so you can interactively see what is being worked on across all teams, as opposed to what features will make X release. While it’s not quite ready, it’s currently top priority on the web team’s current projects. In the immediate future, we plan to deliver the following communications:
  1. Give an explanation of the goals of our new Roadmap and what to expect from it
  2. Show a rough mockup of the proposed new Roadmap
  3. Share a work in progress version of the Roadmap for at least one of our core teams
  4. And then finally transition to this new Roadmap
We’ll approach them in the order above, and we’ll likely need a few weeks between steps, so I don’t want to create the impression that this is happening overnight. But we should be announcing step 1 pretty soon if my meeting on Thursday about this is as good as I think it will be. :-)

Cuphead Is Out Right Now on PS4 - console

After a PlayStation Store listing was spotted overnight, Cuphead has been officially announced for PlayStation 4 via a Summer Game Fest livestream put on by host Geoff Keighley. Better yet, it's available right now on the PlayStation Store for £15.99/$19.99. The upcoming Delicious Last Course DLC will also launch on PS4 day and date with other platforms. What makes this release so interesting is the fact that Studio MDHR wanted to very quickly stamp out any possibility of a PS4 version all the way back in 2017. "There will be no PS4 version" is what was said at the time. Since then, Cuphead has released on Nintendo Switch and even Tesla cars of all places. Now, finally, it comes to Sony's current-gen console. Here's a link to the PlayStation Store listing

Gabe Newell Believes Xbox Series X is Better Than PS5 - console
(hx) 11:18 PM CEST - Jul,28 2020 - Post a comment / read (4)
The co-founder of Valve found himself in the country of New Zealand earlier this year when the COVID-19 pandemic broke out, and rather than choosing to come back to the United States right away, Newell and some of his friends decided to ride the virus out in New Zealand. Now, with the coronavirus basically eradicated from the region, Newell is thanking those in the country for their hospitality with a new public event and has been making the rounds on some various TV programs to promote it. In the process, he’s also now made his opinion on the upcoming next-gen console launch known. Appearing on the television program The Project, Newell was asked by one of the hosts which he thinks is better between the Xbox Series X and PS5. “Uh, the Xbox,” Newell responded plainly. When pressed on why he thought it was a better platform, Newell simply said, “Because it is.” After some laughs were had by the audience, Newell expanded a bit more with, “I don’t have a stake in that race. Obviously, we do most of our development on personal computers. But of the two, I would definitely go with an Xbox.”

Intel Core i9-10850K Officialy Clocked At 5.2GHz - tech
(hx) 01:13 PM CEST - Jul,28 2020 - Post a comment / read (1)
A few weeks ago, I posted a news about Intel’s Core i9-10850K processor, which is a slight downgrade from the flagship Core i9-10900K. The chip is still part of the 14nm 10th generation Comet Lake-S desktop processor family, but is clocked 100MHz slower across base, boost, Turbo Boost 3.0 and Thermal Velocity Boost thresholds. Today, Intel officially announced the processor, along with its bulk pricing. Whereas the Core i9-10900K is priced at $488 in lots of 1,000 for OEMs, the Core i9-10850K is available at a $35 discount, coming in at $453. For OEMs that have encountered trouble getting their hands on the Core i9-10900K, the Core i9-10850K seems like a worthy consolation prize given its relatively small downgrade in performance. I should note that while Intel has listed bulk pricing for the Core i9-10850K at $453, retail boxed versions of the processor (BX8070110850K) will be making their way to store shelves soon. These will be a bit easier to obtain than the Core i9-10900K once released, and should be slightly cheaper as well. However retail pricing will be very probably higher than the bulk rates, so we might see the chip priced closer to +$500 for individuals.

Halo Infinite Gameplay Trailer Analysis - briefly
(d@rkfu) 10:52 PM CEST - Jul,26 2020 - Post a comment
Though Halo Infinite is slated to release on both Microsoft’s current-gen Xbox One and the upcoming next-gen Xbox Series X, fans excited for the latest and greatest Xbox experience have noticed something a little off about what was shown in those new trailers, quickly taking to social media to air complaints (h/t Metro for the roundup) that Microsoft and Halo Infinite developer 343 Industries haven’t ventured far enough outside of the technical bounds of what was already possible with the Xbox One. In response, the chaps over at Digital Foundry have created an 18-minute-long analysis of this issue, clearly laying out how games like Halo Infinite use the same dynamic "global illumination" style of lighting that's been popular in games since around Far Cry 3's release in 2012, which can cause characters and objects to glow, and specific details to become almost invisible when the character or object enters a dark scene or moves into a covered area. Battaglia goes in-depth, eventually reaching the conclusion that Halo Infinite is constrained by its own ambition to maintain a strict 4K resolution at 60 frames per second, and that a catch-all solution that could appease Xbox Series X players without alienating Halo Infinite‘s Xbox One audience could be as simple as a ray-traced global illumination method released exclusively for the Xbox Series X. There’s already hope for a ray-tracing solution to appear in Halo Infinite at some point after its launch.

There is currently no set-in-stone release date for Halo Infinite, which is currently slated to release later this year on Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and Windows 10 via Xbox Game Pass.
PlayStation Plus Celebrating 10 Years With $10 Credit - console

Several Reddit and Twitter users have been posting that they have received a $10 PSN credit from Sony to celebrate their premium game subscription service, PlayStation Plus. , turning ten on June 29. Sony has neither ‘officially’ confirmed nor denied that they are in fact sending these $10 stimulus credits, and no one at DualShockers or our family or friends has yet received one. Until we can confirm that they exist, we will treat the story as a rumor. However, if you are one of the select PS4 owners, this small nod of appreciations is a boon. A lot of times these Sony gifts have been only for those of us in North America, but Reddit and Twitter users from NA and EU are reporting they received the credit via a notification on their PS4 or email. Yet another mystery surrounding the $10 credit is how you become one of the chosen ones, or if the process is random.

One Reddit user, u/pixelspaceship posted a screenshot that is allegedly a chat transcript from PlayStation support. The user asks if PlayStation was giving $10 credits to all PlayStation Plus members. The PlayStation agent confirmed the existence of the credit but said that unfortunately, not all PS+ users would receive the credit. He also says that it is randomly generated and they will deliver the codes until August 11, 2020. The pure randomness of this elusive credit is creating hard feelings amongst PlayStation Plus subscribers. Some fairly new subscribers have allegedly received the credit, while ten-year veterans have not, which would confirm Sony’s random selection process. It’s a friendly gesture on Sony’s part and if the chat transcript is in fact real, there’s still hope the rest of us might still see the $10 credit. Have any of you guys received the credit? Let me know in comments.

Windows 10's latest update bug is breaking internet - tech
(hx) 08:53 AM CEST - Jul,26 2020 - Post a comment / read (5)
Windows 10 May 2020 Update has received fixes for major bugs in Microsoft’s monthly patches for July, but it looks like the update has yet another unpatched problem and it has been finally acknowledged by Microsoft. Microsoft has acknowledged that Windows 10 version 2004 is displaying false internet connection warnings for some PCs. Users have been reporting that a dreaded yellow triangle would appear on the system tray annoyingly reporting that they have “No Internet Access”. The error will appear when your device is connected to the router correctly but it would seem like Windows 10 cannot connect to the internet. “I’ve rebooted my laptop, reset the router and reinstalled the network wireless adaptor but still the same message,” one user noted, and others have also confirmed it. While you’ll be able to browse the web in your browser, it appears that apps such as Spotify, Cortana, Microsoft Store and even Feedback Hub rely on the Windows 10’s internet status to reach the servers. In other words, Spotify and other apps may not work when you have the false internet connection warning.

To fix the no internet connection warning after upgrading to Windows 10 version 2004, follow these steps:
1.Open Windows Search.
2.Look for ‘Registry Editor’.
3.Navigate to “HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetServicesNlaSvcParametersInternet”
4.Modify “EnableActiveProbing” and change the value from ‘0’ to ‘1’.
5.Click on ‘OK’.
6.Close Registry Editor.
7.Restart your computer.
